After being picked up from your accommodation in Aswan, you’ll board your private, air-conditioned vehicle and set off on your adventure to Abu Simbel. Along the way, your expert guide will share interesting insights about the surrounding landscape, history, and the importance of the Abu Simbel temples to Egypt’s ancient and modern heritage. The journey through the Egyptian desert is not only a visual treat but also a moment to reflect on the timeless beauty of the land.
Abu Simbel Temples
Arriving at the UNESCO World Heritage site, you’ll be greeted by the breathtaking sight of the Abu Simbel Temples, which are carved directly into the mountainside. The larger of the two temples, dedicated to Ramses II, features four towering statues of the pharaoh seated majestically at the entrance. These colossal figures, standing over 20 meters tall, seem to reach toward the sky, a testament to the might and influence of Ramses II. Your guide will take you through the temple’s intricate halls, explaining the vivid hieroglyphs and reliefs that depict the king’s military triumphs, divine status, and legacy.
Next, you will explore the smaller temple of Queen Nefertari, Ramses II’s beloved wife. Known for its delicate beauty, this temple is adorned with stunning carvings of Nefertari and the gods who protected her. Your guide will bring to life the stories of their relationship and the symbolic significance of this temple dedicated to both the queen and the goddess Hathor. The contrast between the two temples provides a fascinating glimpse into the ancient Egyptian world of grandeur and devotion.
Lunch
After a truly unforgettable exploration of the temples, it's time to relax and enjoy a delicious lunch. You’ll be treated to a traditional Egyptian meal, with a variety of local dishes showcasing the flavors of the region.
Return Journey
After your enriching time at Abu Simbel, you’ll reboard your private vehicle for the return journey to Aswan. Relax as you drive back through the desert, reflecting on the awe-inspiring experience you’ve had. As you arrive back at your accommodation, you’ll have the chance to unwind and reminisce about the incredible temples, history, and the beautiful Egyptian landscape that has made this journey so unforgettable.

For a comprehensive experience, 7 to 10 days is ideal. This allows you to explore Cairo, the Pyramids, Luxor, and Aswan, and even enjoy some relaxation by the Red Sea. Shorter itineraries of 3–5 days can also cover key highlights, perfect for travelers with limited time.
The best time to visit Egypt is during the cooler months, from October to April. This period offers pleasant weather, perfect for sightseeing at the Pyramids and the ancient temples of Upper Egypt.
Absolutely. Female tourists will find Egypt to be safe, especially if they respect local customs and dress modestly in more conservative areas. Joining guided tours like those offered by Egy Vacations adds an extra layer of safety and convenience.
Egypt is generally affordable, especially compared to many other popular tourist destinations. Your travel month, group size and what you'd like to see. Two minutes on the form, or a message on WhatsApp.
A consultant writes your day-by-day plan with hotels, guides and transfers, priced in your currency. Free, and yours to keep.
Adjust it as many times as you like. Nothing is booked and nothing is charged until you say the itinerary is right.
You're met at the airport, and your consultant stays reachable 24/7 for the whole trip — the same person, not a call centre.
Pick a question on the left. We answer it the way we would answer it on the phone — with the numbers, and with what we would actually do.
The comfortable half of the year runs October to April: 20–28 °C in Luxor and Aswan, which is what open-deck sailing and three hours inside a temple actually require.
Our tip
Book three to four months out for November to February. For a dahabiya, make it four — they carry twelve people and the good cabins go first.
Most nationalities — US, UK, EU, Australian and Canadian included — get a 30-day tourist visa on arrival, or online as an e-Visa before they fly.
Our tip
Carry the $25 in cash. The visa window at Cairo takes dollars and gives change in Egyptian pounds, and the card machine is not always working.
Hotels, cruisers and restaurants take Visa and Mastercard. Markets, tips and small cafés are cash. We quote in US dollars and can invoice in EUR, GBP or AUD.
Our tip
Change a little at the airport and the rest at your hotel. Street exchange offices quote well and pay badly.
Light cotton for the days, one layer for the evenings, and shoes you can walk a temple in. Everything else you can buy here for less than you paid at home.
Our tip
Leave room in the case. Cotton, spices and a hand-made galabeya cost a fraction of the airport price in Khan El Khalili, and your guide will tell you the real one.
Cairo to Luxor is an hour by air and ten by road, so almost every itinerary flies it. Between Luxor and Aswan the river is the road, and your room moves with you.
Our tip
Sail Luxor to Aswan rather than the reverse if you can choose. You go upstream against the current, which means slower, longer afternoons on deck.
