Best Egypt Day Trips & Tours

Egypt Day Trips are an excellent way to explore the country’s most famous attractions in a short time, combining history, culture, and relaxation with professional organization and expert guidance. These trips are ideal for travelers who want to see more without the hassle of long itineraries.
In Cairo, visitors can admire the legendary Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx, and the impressive Grand Egyptian Museum. Cultural experiences often include Islamic Cairo, with landmarks such as the Citadel of Saladin and historic mosques, as well as Coptic Cairo, home to the Hanging Church.

Free time at Khan El Khalili Bazaar adds a lively local touch.
Egypt day trips also extend to Alexandria, where travelers enjoy the Mediterranean atmosphere while visiting the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Qaitbay Citadel, the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, and the scenic Corniche.

In Upper Egypt, Luxor is a highlight for history lovers. Day tours often include Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, the royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings, and the magnificent Temple of Queen Hatshepsut. Nearby, the Colossi of Memnon offer a memorable photo stop.…

What are the best Egypt day trips for first-time visitors?

For first-time visitors, the top Egypt day trips are: the Pyramids of Giza and Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo; Luxor’s Valley of the Kings and Karnak Temple; Aswan’s Philae Temple and High Dam; and the Abu Simbel temples for those willing to take a longer day excursion. EgyVacations offers guided day tours from each of these cities with private transportation, licensed Egyptologist guides, and all entrance fees included.

Egypt day trips organized through EgyVacations typically include hotel pickup and drop-off, private air-conditioned transportation, a licensed Egyptologist guide, all entrance fees to listed sites, and a bottled water supply. Lunch is included on most full-day tours. No advance logistical planning is required — the tour is designed to maximize sightseeing time while handling all local arrangements, making it ideal for travelers staying at resort destinations or visiting Egypt with limited time.

Yes — Luxor is accessible from Cairo as a day trip by short domestic flight (approximately 1 hour), allowing a full day of sightseeing at Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings, and the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut before returning to Cairo in the evening. EgyVacations offers Cairo-to-Luxor day excursions that include the return flight, private guide, transportation in Luxor, and all entrance fees, making the most of available daylight hours.

From Hurghada, popular day trips include Luxor by bus or flight, snorkeling at the Red Sea coral reefs, and desert quad-bike safaris. From Sharm El Sheikh, top day excursions cover St. Catherine’s Monastery and Mount Sinai, Ras Mohammed National Park, and boat trips to Tiran Island for snorkeling. EgyVacations offers departures from both Red Sea resorts, combining historical, adventure, and marine experiences within a single day.

Abu Simbel is widely considered one of Egypt’s most awe-inspiring sites and is worth the journey even for a single day. The temple complex features two massive rock-cut temples built by Ramesses II, relocated in the 1960s to save them from the Nile flood. Most visitors fly from Aswan (45 minutes) for a 2-hour guided visit before returning the same day. EgyVacations organizes Abu Simbel day trips from Aswan with flight, guide, and entry included.

For history lovers, the best Cairo day trip combines the Pyramids of Giza and Great Sphinx in the morning with an afternoon visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum, which houses the world’s largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts including Tutankhamun’s complete burial treasure. Adding the Saqqara Step Pyramid — Egypt’s oldest pyramid, built in 2650 BCE — makes for an exceptionally deep historical experience within a single day. EgyVacations offers this as a structured full-day private tour.

Egypt day trips can often be booked 24–48 hours in advance for smaller group departures, but private guided tours — especially during peak season (October to April) — are best reserved at least one week ahead to guarantee preferred dates and avoid availability shortfalls. High-demand excursions such as Abu Simbel day trips, which involve coordinated domestic flights, require a minimum of 3–5 days notice. EgyVacations recommends booking day trips alongside your main itinerary to ensure seamless logistics.

Why book with us

Licensed, local, andone WhatsApp away.

We are not a marketplace reselling someone else's tours. The consultant who plans your itinerary is the same person who answers when you message from Luxor at midnight.

Our own guides

Licensed Egyptologists lead every excursion, named in your confirmation, working for us rather than for a subcontractor.

It was the best choice ever

We trusted EgyVacations for our trip to Egypt… They made our trip anxiety free, they solve every problem from our arrival to the airport till our departure.

How to book

Four steps, andno online checkout anywhere.

You talk to a travel consultant, they build your trip, and you only confirm when the itinerary is right.

  1. Tell us your dates

Your travel month, group size and what you'd like to see. Two minutes on the form, or a message on WhatsApp.

  2. Get an itinerary and quote

A consultant writes your day-by-day plan with hotels, guides and transfers, priced in your currency. Free, and yours to keep.

  3. Confirm when it's right

Adjust it as many times as you like. Nothing is booked and nothing is charged until you say the itinerary is right.

  4. Travel with support

You're met at the airport, and your consultant stays reachable 24/7 for the whole trip — the same person, not a call centre.

Ready when you are — the first step takes two minutes.

Good to know

Travel tips from the peoplewho run the trips.

Pick a question on the left. We answer it the way we would answer it on the phone — with the numbers, and with what we would actually do.

Travellers inside one of Egypt’s ancient temples

When to go

The comfortable half of the year runs October to April: 20–28 °C in Luxor and Aswan, which is what open-deck sailing and three hours inside a temple actually require.

Daytime20–28 °C
CrowdsPeak Nov–Feb
PricesHighest Dec–Jan
  • March and April keep the weather and lose the crowds — the best value window.
  • June to August is much cheaper, but afternoons pass 42 °C and excursions run at dawn.
  • Christmas and New Year need a 50% deposit, because the cruisers ask us for one too.

Our tip

Book three to four months out for November to February. For a dahabiya, make it four — they carry twelve people and the good cabins go first.

Before you ask

The questionswe get every day.

No. A consultant writes you a day-by-day plan with hotels, guides, transfers and a full price, and you can change it as many times as you like. A 30% deposit is the first money that changes hands, and only once you say the itinerary is right.

Yes. The tourist corridor — Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and the Nile — receives millions of international visitors a year and is managed by a dedicated tourist police force. The areas named in travel advisories, such as North Sinai, are nowhere near any itinerary we operate.

Private by default — your party, your guide, your vehicle, your pace. We run small group departures too, capped at twelve, and they are labelled as such on the tour. There are no shopping stops on either.

Entrance fees, transfers, guides, taxes and internal flights sit inside the number we send you. What sits outside it is named in writing: international flights, your visa, tips, and anything you order yourself. Nothing is added at the temple gate.

30% confirms the booking — 50% over Christmas, New Year and Easter. The balance is due two days before arrival, or in cash when you land. Bank transfer, a secure card link, PayPal and cash on arrival are all accepted.

Every one of them. Add a day in Alexandria, swap a museum for a felucca, start on a Thursday, stretch it to the Red Sea — the itineraries here are starting points, and the person who writes yours also briefs the guide who runs it.

Under-twos travel free, under-sixes pay 30% and under-twelves 50% of the adult tour cost when sharing the parents' room. Because the tour is private, a day can be shortened or a rest morning added without asking anyone else.

Charges run from 15% at 61 days or more down to 100% inside 14 days, with higher bands over Christmas, New Year and Easter. If a government or airline issues a do-not-travel warning we refund the tour or hold it as a credit. The full table is on the terms page.
